Credit Crunch Weddings?
Yet another feature about ‘the average cost of a wedding’ – this time on Woman’s Hour quoting the old chestnut of the average wedding costing £20,000!
I’ve never been to an ‘average wedding’ so maybe I’m not qualified to comment but I really find it hard to believe? Today’s campaign to ‘make brides think they have to spend a load of money’ relied upon the ‘expert’ evidence from someone who works for a wedding magazine. It seems to be the case that those who ‘talk-up’ the likely costs always have some motive or another in doing so?
I accept that it is possible to spend much more than this, just as it’s possible to spend much less. Sure, if you invite 100′s of guests then the cost is going to be proportionately higher but I think the trend nowadays is to cut-down on the numbers and maybe have a separate list for the evening do?
As for actual figures, it’s too early to say, but we are hoping to spend less than £5,000 and, so far, I think it’s a reasonable estimate? Most people I know have spent similar amounts so it’s probably a fair target to aim for.
